Push for digital skills among Asean workforce

A COALITION of major tech companies have pledged to develop digital skills for the Asean workforce. The pledge, part of the World Economic Forum’s Digital Asean initiative, aims to train by 2020 some 20 million people in Southeast Asia, especially those working in small- and medium-size enterprises.

The Science and Technology ministry will seek to change existing law to allow 100 per cent foreign ownership in tech start-up companies, said Minister Suvit Maesincee at  the Start-up Thailand Conference, adding that the change will also facilitate start-ups’ access to funding.

Noriaki Goto, Krungsri President and CEO; Makoto Kobayashi, BTMU Managing Executive Officer and head of Financial Solutions Group; and Duangjai Asawachintachit, Secretary General of the Board of Investment recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in support of cross-border trades by Thai operators wishing to invest abroad as well as Japanese operators wishing to invest in Thailand.
